Day 3, 4 & 5

Well, that sucked. This cold got a stranglehold on me, and breathing has been an issue with all this phlegm. Plus the cardio where you work harder and breathe harder - breathing is essential.
Tomorrow I start again. Hopefully. If I sleep tonight.

PS I wonder if I shoulda gone the P90x route..

Day 2

Well, first of all, let me say I'm still sick. Ugh. I finally succumbed and took my cheritussin cough syrup last night - cough syrup with codeine! It didn't seem to do much. I mean, I wasn't any more tired! But boy, did I have a hard time waking up!
When I went to bed last night, I had little pangs of pain - in my hips, abs, etc. - but normal, post-workout pains. The kind you expect the NEXT day.

I got up this morning and had the most healthy breakfast I could imagine (insert sarcasm here): I ate a donut. I know, bad!
Followed by lots of water.
After a little time of vegging out on the couch, watching old episodes of a fave show (y'know, Central Perk, Dr Drake Ramoray, DOOL, "Your her lobster," and other fun memories), I put in the mat work DVD first.
I did the first third of it with no problems, no slowing down... mostly shoulder work and ab work. OW. then we came to hips. My kips cramp up any way, with know known cause (other than I've been lazy). And there are these moves where your lunging on one side for about 60 or so repetitions... my left knee started to ache. I was thrilled when we switched to the other side - I wanted to give my left hip the same work out - but my right ankle started to hurt pretty quick in. Lame.
Finished the mat work. I already had sweat dripping. Mind you, my house is set at 58 degrees Fahrenheit, so it's not that warm in here.
I blew my nose (hey, I'm sick. I already told you that), drank some water (not too much), and put in the cardio DVD. Not 4 minutes in to it, I needed a break.
About 7 minutes in to it, you're doing these leg kicks.. at fist just straight up.. Right, right, right, right; left, left, left, left.. then it switches to Right up, cross left down (does this make sense? like you're doing some fancy leg crossing in the air while hopping on the same foot)... right leg up across left, and then straight down - now left leg up and over right, while hopping on right leg...
It reminded me of when I was little.  I used to love doing leg kicks. Rockette style, good old how-you-think-a-cheerleader-kicks (right knee up, left leg up! whee!) abck-in-the-80's-and-you-were-a- kid, all of them.
One day I wore a little denim mini skirt. I was in my dining room, and did one of those "cheerleader" kicks. Before I knew it, the force of my kick (leg up!) and the lack of stretch in my denim had me flat on my back. I had learned that the momentum I had gained exceeded the stretch of my denim and it just lifted me off my feet.

That's how I felt doing these leg-over kicks. Like, all of a sudden, I was going to land on my ass.
so I took a break and rested... drank a little water... and continued on.

and then... 1 minutes in, I hurt myself. Standing still. Seriously?
Left groin muscle said, "F! you! lady!!"
So I continued any way, but instead of hopping, I was just tapping alternative feet.  I picked it up at squatting, and then I felt better. maybe I just needed to stretch.

The first 15 minutes of the video took me 30 minutes. I'm not kidding. Lame. My respirations were around 32, so being that I coughed all day yesterday and didn't want that to return a few hours before I went to work, I slowed it down. I was still sweating like mad, don't get me wrong.
However, as I continued, my left groin kept tweaking when I hopped on it. so I stopped. Didn't finish.

Tomorrow is another day.

PS Dogs did not interfere at all. They napped. :D

Day 1..ish

Ok, first things first:
My measurements, today.
Weight: 146.2 lbs (66.45 k)
Bust 38 inches
Waist 36 inches
Hips 38 inches.
Hmm. When I thought I'd lost my waist, I was right!
I just previewed the DVDs, and she mentions no kids, no dogs, no cats, no kidding. she's really not kidding.
the cardio is like 30 minutes of jumping, and kicking, and little dance moves. It looks like fun.
So I tired it out.
My dog barked at me a lot. and tried to jump on me a few times (I think he thought he was dancing with me)...

HOLY PUCK, Batman. I did about the 1st 10 minutes and then was so out of breath, I had to sit down for 5... I didn't get far.
It probably doesn't help that I have an Upper Respiratory Infection. I was trying to sweat it out a little. :D
30 minutes went by. I tried to keep up with it as much as I can. Tracy tells you stay light on your feet. ...phew! Looking forward to trying that again tomorrow!

I tried the mat routine. The dogs thought that I must be on the floor for them! My black lab crawled under me and started licking my face, trying to get me to play with him. It was cute, but seriously distracted me.
So I made this blog.

See you next time!

Intro

Hi friends,
my name is Rebecca, and this is going to be a blog about my TAM journey.
What is TAM you ask?
I am referring to the Tracy Anderson Method. Specifically, this blog is regarding her Metamorphosis series, for what she calls the "abcentric" body type.

A little background.
When I was younger (I'm in my mid-thirties now), I had ridiculously fast metabolism, and ate accordingly. I was a gymnast through ninth grade, and continued to be athletic up through about my 1st year of college.
When I graduated high school, I was the same height I am now, 5'6", and I weighed 105 lbs (48 k). I ate HORRIBLY - this means a ton of food, with no regard to a particular vegetable and fruit addition (Although I always ate fruit) and I consumed a lot of candy (particularly peanut butter cups), and a lot of soda (mostly colas).

... admission: I'm still eating this way. Although I eat more vegetables now.

I was thrilled when I gained the "freshman 15" - hooray for boobies! And I didn't complain when another 10-15 lbs slowly creeped up on me. I still felt good about my body, I had curves in all the right places, and my husband thought I was hot.
I'm in nursing school right now, and due to this plus increased cortisol in the last year and a half, I have gained approx 12 lbs.

My goal weight is around 130lbs (59 k) - and I am currently at 146 lbs (66.4 k).

According to the National Institue of Heart, Lungs and Blood BMI index, I am currently at 23.6, which is within normal range (18.5-24.9)
http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/

My goal weight would give me a BMI of 21.0.

About the Tracy Anderson Method, and why I chose this..
Before starting nursing school in August of 2010, I was running semi-frequently with my (now former) boss, and she was encouraging me to run 5Ks, 10Ks, and to train with her for a half marathon or three.
I never made it to the half marathon, and the last 10K I did (almost a year ago, while in school) I walked a great portion of it.

Tracy Anderson's says her method is simple.. you do cardio for 30 minutes, then 30 minutes of mat work (which, by the way, on other blogs I've looked up, many highly recommend the mat work prior to the cardio, and having previewed my DVDs, I can see why!), 6 days a week.
You also must stick to her very strict diet plan, where she claims to detoxify you and reset your metabolism.
Now, I'm a scientific kind of girl. I have a hard time taking anyone's claim at face value. She doesn't promise you anything, but says her plan will only work if you stick to her diet ONLY.
Her diet looks like it's about 700 calories or so a day. Um. Not gonna happen. She also doesn't like running, because she says you will "bulk up".  I intend on running, 2 times a week, about 2-3 miles each time.

She also recommends you use no more than 3 lb weights. Ok, how about I start with no weights, and if I wanna go to 5, great, 10, awesome! I think muscles (some, don't get crazy here!) are sexy!

I can see how doing this workout 6 days a week will have some great results. I am going to eat better, but I'm not going to do Tracy's diet.  I chose this probably because I was feeling depressed about the way my body has been changing, and stumbled across her infomercial - not for the first time, either! I had been interested previously, but had forgotten about her and her plan.

I will keep you posted on my journey - new measurements and weights (maybe) will be posted every 10 days.

I used to say, I don't want to lose weight, I want to redistribute my body mass. This still mostly holds true, plus a few lbs shed, too!
Thanks for reading!
